In 1979 Eleanor rented an apartment on Marine Street in St. Augustine. A painter traveling from Mexico she found a place that fit her desires. An ancient, tropical enclave by the sea. A few months later she met Curt, a newly arrived woodenboat sailor who had traveled down the East Coast from the Outer Banks of North Carolina stopping and working along the way. He too had found a good reason to stay.

From that time, through their years together and the many places they have lived, they have documented their experiences through creative expression. Their story continues here...

On the Road

We left St. Augustine loaded solid. As the house emptied to the 'dregs' it all hit us hard. A year of setting it in motion, closing the office, making plans, telling friends, intense house repairs, selling scores of possessions and artwork, and many goodbyes with mixed emotions. The house went on contract after a week on the market and we set out on our open-ended adventure. It was a beautiful day as many had been before and we caravanned to Jekyll Island for the night and on to North Carolina. The traffic was brutal as we stayed in the right lane running around 60. Eleanor kept us together by following close to Annie being towed ahead. We slept in the morning after arriving... exhausted from the drive and the year behind us.

Departure in Sight

We are in the midst of our transition. On one side is 18 years of a rich life in St. Augustine raising our daughter, enjoying our friends, exploring the environment and working at art and design in a beautiful place. On the other... the whole world. St. Augustine has been our home twice and may be again. But for now it is starting to feel like our boat's wake... closing around our stern as we break though new water.

Our house is shiny and commanding attention. We hope a sale is eminent. Next week we depart for North Carolina and then on to New York and Spain. Clean the brushes and sharpen the pencil!

A few snaps to remember our home on the island...
